What's My Jungian Archetype?

What's My Archetype?

The term"archetype" has its roots in ancient Greek. The root words are archein, which means"old or original"; and typos, which means"pattern, model or type". The combined meaning is an"original pattern" of that all other similar persons, objects, or concepts are derived, copied, modeled, or emulated.

Carl Gustav Jung, the psychologist, utilized the idea of archetype in his concept of the psyche. He considered that mythic characters - archetypes - reside over the unconscious of people all over the world. Archetypes represent human motifs of our experience as we evolved; consequentially, they evoke feelings that are deep.

This is why they are called "Jungian Archetypes".

The Four Cardinal Orientations specify four groups, with each class containing three kinds (as the wheel of archetypes shown above attests ).

Every group is inspired by its various orienting focus: sequence, liberty, socialness and ego-fulfillment.

This is a variation on the 3 groups of Types previously mentioned; however, whereas each of the types inside the Ego, Soul & Self places all share the exact same driving origin, the types containing the four orienting groups have different source drives but the same inspiring orientation.

By way of example, the Caregiver is driven by the need to meet ego agendas through meeting the needs of others, and it is a social orientation; whereas, the Hero, that can be driven by the requirement to fulfill self-improvement, does so through brave actions that proves self-worth. Understanding the groupings will aid in understanding the inspirational and self-perceptual dynamics of each type.
